Serial number

An identifier which, together with an item prime identifier (part number/ item number), identifies an individual physical item where a quantity of the same item has been processed as one group (i.e. manufactured).
A serial number is allocated to an item for maintaining records against the individual item, and can include:
  • A object baseline
  • Build history
  • Waivers, deviations, and modifications
  • The As-built configuration record for a complete main equipment
A serialized item can have the following characteristics:
  • It is a removable and maintainable item.
  • It can be main equipment.
  • It is an entity with functional and physical characteristics which must be measured to determine and record suitability for use.
